This month is just flying by. I can hardly believe we’re already heading into the second half of it. I hope you have someone special to color this page for. I’m sending a card to my daughter who is away at her first year of college. I used to sneak a valentine card into her lunch when she was in grade school.

I hope so or this is all for nothing! Have any of you made New Year’s resolutions? What are they? This week for your coloring fun is a lion fairy creature. Enjoy!

Arkan Sonney coloring page (that’s hedgehog in Gaelic)
Posted by: Lyon
August 20th, 2012 >> Coloring Pages, Illustration
The coloring page this week is another hedgehog. But not the ordinary kind. It’s an Arkan Sonney, (literally lucky urchin or plentiful pig), which is the Gaelic for hedgehog. In Gaelic folklore, it is a type of Fae which looks like a pig with long hairs. They are said to bring good luck to whoever can catch them. For this reason, they’re also called “lucky piggies”. They are very shy and will flee from people.
It was said by the wise ones that if you catch a lucky piggy, you will always find a silver piece in your pocket.

My youngest daughter came to visit today. She moved out on her own about a month ago.
She described to me a lot of things about her current living situation that are less than stellar. I bit my lip and just listened. I remember how very annoyed I was with my mother when she tried to interfere with me on my first choices of living arrangements when I stuck out on my own. Nothing she said made a bit of difference on the quality of my apartment, and I wasn’t going to give up my freedom.
So I did the next best thing a mom can do. I fed her a good lunch and loaded her down with odds and ends from the fridge. At least she has some yummy fresh veggies from our garden for dinner tonight. She did not ask me for money. So I won a bet with a friend of mine who was sure she would. Pay up, T.
The coloring page this week is a mustachioed dog, by special request.

Time seems to be moving at light speed this year. I can’t believe July is half over.
Our tomatoes are pumping out ripe fruit faster than we can eat them. I think I may have to learn how to can them. I stopped buying canned tomatoes from the store a while ago because there are so many additives and flavorings added to them. What is wrong with just plain stewed tomatoes?
Maybe I can just chop and freeze the fresh ones? I’ll have to look into it.
The coloring page this week is a lion having the best time catching a wave. What are your favorite summer past times? Let me know.

If you live most anywhere in the US, you’ve been dealing with sweltering temperatures the last few weeks. Here in Missouri we’ve broken a number of heat records, some of them dating back a while. The one that is the most concerning is the days in a row where temps were over 100°F.
We’ve been trying to save some of our more sensitive plant life in the yard, because on top of this scorching heat, we haven’t had any kind of rain to speak of. We’ve lost several of my husband’s bonsai plants and the seedlings of edible flowers just crisped up soon after sprouting. I’m almost afraid to open the electric and water bills.
One of the things I miss most about my home back East was being able to walk down the block to the beach and the ocean. Nothing is more refreshing that a quick dip in the salty sea water.
The coloring page this week is a puppy lounging in his beach chair sipping lemonade. Enjoy. And if you have any beachy pictures you want to share with me, send them my way!

Mother’s day viewing of the Avengers. Plus a coloring page.

May 14th, 2012 >> Coloring Pages, Illustration
This weekend was just glorious.
I feel only a tad guilty that I spent nearly all of it just puttering around and not creating more art, but there has to be some time in the schedule for recharging the creative juices.
Saturday was a seasonal sunny day. Husband and I spent the morning doing assorted chores.
I made a run to the bank after which I went to Main Street to check out a new health and vitamin store that recently opened in one of the vacant store fronts.
My intention was only to peek inside and see what they had. So much for intentions. They had fresh walnuts with no oils on them, and a huge bag of candied ginger root. I bought both. The shop keep was thrilled I’d stopped in and talked my ear off about everything under the sun.
When I finally made my escape, I headed south to the Quilt Shop. I’ve been meaning to do this since my birthday several weeks ago, but deadlines ate me alive and I just couldn’t get to the store. Lucky for me, they’d just received a shipment of the very item I was on the hunt for. I am now the proud owner of a freehand quilting foot. Maybe with the proper tools now, I will be able to finish the queen-sized “Stack and Whack” quilt I’ve been working on for the last 10 years. I’m making it for the master bedroom.
Sunday, was Mother’s Day. And The husband and kid took me to see the Avengers. It was quite enjoyable. If you haven’t seen it yet, you have to stay through ALL the credits. There is a scene at the very, very end that is worth a chuckle.
This week’s coloring page was inspired by the recent movie outing. A cat with a very generous tub of popcorn. (Our local theater uses paper bags now, instead of the iconic wax-coated tubs.)
